mh acoustics’ em64 Eigenmike® spherical microphone array contains 64 professional-grade omnidirectional electret microphones mounted on a rigid spherical baffle. All electronics are inside the sphere. The patented design decomposes the soundfield into spherical harmonics of up to sixth-order HOA signals. The em64 is powered by Power-over-Ethernet (PoE+) using CAT5e or better ethernet cables. The em64 uses Audinate’s Dante protocol over standard Gb ethernet networks.
Microphone programmable gain preamplifiers, microphone boost, 24-bit A/D conversion and microphone calibration are done inside the em64 Eigenmike® array. The 64 calibrated microphone signals are available to a Mac or Windows PC by Dante’s virtual sound card (DVS). A coupon for the Dante Virtual Soundcard license is included.
Some technical highlights: maximum SPL 130 dB, frequency response 20Hz to 20kHz, sampling rate 48kHz, spatial aliasing cutoff frequency >12kHz, diameter of spherical baffle is 84mm, power consumption less than 10 Watts in PoE power.
For control, processing, and recording of the microphone signals, mh acoustics provides its native EigenStudio® application (macOS, Windows coming soon). A set of VST plugins is available for users who use a DAW application that supports 64 channels track width.
